Lingering over my morning coffee is one of my favorite retirement perks! No rushing out the door off to do someone else’s bidding. Usually it’s just me and my dog curled up beside me. Retirement Oh Yeah!
Most mornings you can find me at my dining room table with a cup of coffee and my Bible study materials spread all over the end of the table. This is how I like to start my day; unhurried, lingering over coffee and God’s Word. This is a retirement habit I fully enjoy. The alone time has become precious. It’s when I plan my day, check emails, and such. The best part is the time I get to spend with the LORD!
When I started an intentional Bible reading plan years ago someone suggested beginning with Proverbs. This book of wisdom has 31 chapters. Just enough for each day of the month. You can start on any day of the week! Hopefully you understand what I am talking about and you too cherish your time in the Word. If not I challenge you start today! A few minutes each morning can make a huge difference.
One more tip: keep a journal handy. Take note of spiritual truths. I journal my prayers along with answers as they come. Counting my blessings with pen and ink is a visual reminder of God’s faithfulness to me and my family. Sometimes the smallest things are big blessings!
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
