It’s Christmas day! I totally missed week 4 of Advent, our son-in-law has been hospitalized for almost 2 weeks with a very serious liver condition. He was able to join the family’s Christmas Eve celebrations yesterday and make a brief appearance at a church celebration Sunday evening. Last Sunday after church I found myself at the walk-in clinic with the diagnosis: upper respiratory infection. Marshall is still recovering from his neck surgery. What a couple of weeks it has been! Not exactly what I planned for this holiday season.
The fourth week of Advent is all about Love. The past week I have experienced love in many ways. The love of a church family and their concern for my son-in-law and daughter. The love of those close to me to rally around and help with Christmas preparations so I can rest and feel better. I may not have read my Advent guide about love but God in his great mercy and kindness allowed me to experience love not only from above but also from those closest to me through friends and family!
No, it has not been the Christmas I planned or wanted for that matter, but still it has been a good Christmas. Our son-in-law is home recovering. Marshall’s neck seems to be getting better. And me? I feel better too. So today, Christmas Day I will light all the candles in my Advent wreath. I will thank God, because he is a compassionate loving and forgiving God who understands sometimes life gets in the way. He understands when lighting candles and reading devotionals are forgotten and not even on our radar.
I will light all the Advent candles today! I will celebrate our LORD and savior! I will rejoice because of his great love.
For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.
