Sew Monday #13

It’s Sew Monday!! This block features a simple brown cross. The heart is appliqued to the chocolate brown background with whipped back-stitch. I love the many ways back-stitch is used in hand embroidery. When you master back-stitch, you can easily build your stitch repertoire. Several of my favorite stitches begin with back-stitch. The cross is held to the heart with chain stitch. The minimal embellishments on the cross consist of a decorative faux wood button and pistol stitch. Metallic beads add texture to the heart.

This cross reminds me that the cross of Christ was simple and plain, rugged even.

My faith is simple like this cross. Jesus paid my sin debt on a simple plain rugged cross. Simply stated Jesus’ deep love for me held him there.  Because of what he accomplished on that cross he offers me the gift of eternal life. I can accept or reject his gift, I choose to accept!

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 6:23 NASB
