Sew Monday #5

Sew Monday #5. Block #5 in my Treasured Hearts quilt. This block was inspired by some of our spring day trips through the Texas countryside. I love the spring when the trees are beginning to bud and the wildflowers dot the landscape. The vintage lace frames the tree applique beautifully. I really like the way using variegated brown thread and stem stitch makes the trunk and limbs of the tree have texture. French knots scattered along the foreground remind me of the fields strewn with wildflowers.

Here in Texas wildflower displays are only possible when the rains have come in the proper time and in the proper amount. Some years entire fields are blanketed with wildflowers. There are carpets of bluebonnets and some fields are covered in bright yellow blossoms, while other fields are alive with a myriad of colors.

You caused abundant rain to fall and restored your worn-out land.
Psalms 68:9 GNB
