Burgers, Turtles and a Texas Sheriff

Friday Adventure! Our goal was lunch at The Wagon Wheel Drive-in Big Spring, Texas by way of several farm to market roads. As usual the backroads provided varied scenery and some unexpected adventures! The Wagon Wheel Drive-in did not disappoint! Carhops take your order right from your window. Our burgers were perfect, made exactly how we wanted them. There is no inside dining, it is truly a drive-in. Speakers pump 70’s and 80’s music onto the parking lot for the patron’s enjoyment.

Early in our day trip Marshall spotted a turtle SLOWLY crossing the road. Knowing the turtle was in danger from the traffic we stopped so Marshall could assist the creature across the well-traveled road. A Sheriff pulled off the road to investigate why we stopped and getting out of our car. Marshall explained. He said “I thought I was the only one who stopped to help turtles cross the road. Thank you for helping Texas wildlife”.

Needless to say, I asked him to sign my prayer quilt which he did eagerly. His prayer request is for safety as he serves the people of Texas. This little turtle adventure had moments of happiness. It also gave Marshall a sense of satisfaction to help a living creature. It’s not every day you get to document such a sweet and slightly whimsical encounter. All that aside, the young civil servant reminded me just how many folks put themselves into potentially dangerous situations every day for you and me. Yes! Yes, I will pray for your safety as well your fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters! I hope whoever reads this will also lift prayers on behalf of these brave folks. Will you join Marshall and me?

Help to carry one another’s burdens, and in this way, you will obey the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2 GNB
