Could It Be Queen Latifah?

We were homeward bound after attending my grandniece’s first birthday. It had been a melancholy trip, my nephew in law was battling brain cancer. He was so sick he did not attend his daughter’s party. There were times when the mood was brighter. Children often force us to see a brighter tomorrow. Simply being a child can produce in the adults around them a positive attitude where none should exist. The trip was bittersweet. It would be the last time we would see my nephew-in-law, but It was the first of, hopefully, many family celebrations with my grandniece.

The pensive mood in our car was so heavy. I felt like I had to escape. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a donut shop. A hot cup of coffee and something sweet might lighten our spirits. I was missing my girlfriends back in Texas. I really wanted more than an impersonal text message or Facebook post. I needed, no Marshall and I both needed someone. Someone tangible right in front of us to encourage and lift us up.

Walking into the coffee shop, it seemed like any other ordinary coffee shop. All that was about to change! The woman who waited on us looked like Queen Latifah! Her hair, her voice, just her presence! I have often wondered if it really was Queen Latifah researching a role?! That was almost two years ago and as far as I know she hasn’t been in a movie about a barista! She made selling and buying coffee and donuts an experience! She was enthusiastic about her favorites and brutally honest about those she did not care for. All the while making us smile and even laugh out loud! I wanted one each of her favorites!

When I asked her to sign my quilt she loudly exclaimed “Oh Girl! You don’t mean it!!” It wasn’t a question, it was a statement proclaimed to the world! When she heard I was gonna pray for her and so were my prayer warriors back home, a mini-revival broke out right there in the donut shop! Hallelujahs, and Thank you, Jesus! joyously tumbled out of her mouth as she did a little worship dance.

I can’t remember what her prayer need was because my need was so great that day. I know I prayed for her as did my girlfriends back home and I have prayed for her since. I also know God sent us to THAT donut shop because we desperately needed her and hopefully she was blessed as well. God knows exactly what we need when we need it!

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above . James 1:17a

What a great surprise package God had waiting for us in that ordinary donut shop!
All I can say is thank you Heavenly Father and Queen Latifah look-alike, from the bottom of my heart!
