Some of my fondest memories as a child are of the road trips we took from Texas to Michigan to visit my Dad’s side of the family. These trips provided many opportunities to see amazing sights for a little girl from West Texas! I was amazed and overwhelmed by all my MANY northern cousins. It was on those trips up north that I experienced many things for the first time. People talked funny, my cousins wanted me to say certain words like ‘creek’! Humidity in the summer and SNOW in the winter, two things our area of Texas has very little of. The biggest and maybe the best difference was the large family on my Dad’s side.
The time I spent traveling with my mom and dad have been their legacy to me. My mom was a hairdresser and kept a tip jar at her station. All the tip money went toward a yearly family vacation. It was a road trip every time! When we all piled into the car, excitement filled the car! When day became night, I loved it, the stars and the moon were so big and bright. Somehow I felt so safe and happy with mom, dad, and little sister Missy in that tiny confined space. It was a happy place for me!
